WHAT YOU’LL
LEARN and practice

Maybe you have been dreaming of a career in agriculture, but you did not grow up in a farming or ranching family. It can be hard to know where to start.
At New Cowgirl Camp you will be learning from lifelong ranchers and seasoned professionals. No question is too basic or too advanced.

    • Basic farm skills, fencing, and facilities

    • Animal husbandry and low-stress animal handling techniques (stock selection & on-the-ground handling)

    • Planning grazing to maximize ecological benefit

    • Assessing pasture health

    • Holistic decision-making frameworks to build a resilient operation

    • A process for making values-aligned decisions that account for financial, social, and ecological impacts

    • Tools to manage the complexity of working with living systems (ol’ Mother Nature)

    • Farm business management

  • Learn the practical realities of accessing land, including leasing structures, stewardship agreements, and the considerations that shape responsible land management.

  • Stewardship doesn’t happen alone. Through guided reflection and shared conversation, participants build meaningful connections and an ongoing network of support that continues beyond camp.

CAMP DETAILS

  • This is not a themed retreat or a vacation. Participants come here to learn practical skills and decision-making tools that can be applied to real working lands.

    Real Skills, Not Performance
    Participants learn hands-on ranch skills—from livestock handling and fencing to grazing planning and land assessment. The goal is competence, not image.

    Holistic Stewardship
    Technical skills are paired with holistic decision-making tools that help participants understand the ecological, financial, and social complexity of managing land and animals.

    A Learning Environment Built for Women
    The program creates a space where women can ask questions, build confidence, and develop competence without needing to prove themselves in traditionally male-dominated agricultural spaces.

    Practical Knowledge That Transfers
    Concepts from regenerative agriculture and holistic management are translated into clear, usable tools that participants can apply in many different landscapes and contexts.

    A Community That Continues Beyond Camp
    Participants leave with more than new skills—they leave with relationships and a network of peers who continue to support one another long after camp ends.

  • New Cowgirl Camp takes place at the Lazy R Ranch, a working cattle operation where learning happens in the rhythm of real ranch life. Over five days, participants step into a mix of hands-on training, thoughtful discussion, and field learning alongside a small group of women who share a commitment to stewardship.

    Days move between classroom conversation, demonstrations in the field, and practical work with livestock, land, and infrastructure. Evenings slow down with shared meals, reflection, and time to connect with the community forming around you.

    You don’t need to come from agriculture to belong here—but you should come ready to learn, participate, and engage deeply with the work.

    • Small cohorts (16–18 participants) for hands-on learning

    • Canvas bell tents and rustic ranch accommodations

    • Shared bathroom and shower facilities

    • Hearty, locally sourced meals prepared each day

    • Access to ranch tools, livestock, and equipment for learning

    • Classroom discussion paired with field demonstrations

    • Visits to neighboring farms and ranches

    • Time each evening for reflection, conversation, and community

  • Tuition for New Cowgirl Camp is $1,250 for advance registration through June 1, 2026, and $1,300 for registrations after June 1. We offer a limited number of sliding-scale scholarships to help make the program accessible, with options covering ¼, ½, ¾, or full tuition based on need. Participants must be 18 years or older to attend.

    Registration may be transferred to another eligible participant if needed, and partial refunds are available with advance notice according to our cancellation policy.

About

New Cowgirl Camp grew out of Roots of Resilience’s decades-long work with holistic land management. After years of working with established operators, the founders realized real change would come from supporting new stewards—especially women. The first women-only camp revealed something unexpected: technical training paired with an all-women container was profoundly transformative. What began as an experiment became a defining program—one that continues to grow through word-of-mouth, lived impact, and the people it sends back into the world.
